On this day in 1812, brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published the first volume of stories that would make them famous. Among the stories that became known as Grimm's Fairy Tales are “Hansel and Gretel,” “Snow White,” “Little Red Riding Hood,” and “Sleeping Beauty.” As folklorists, they didn’t write these stories; they recorded them. These fairy tales are an ancient oral tradition, stories that were told to teach lessons and entertain. They are in our bones, which is why they are still popular today.
